Silver Linings Playbook

What makes a great love story?
A great love story is one which makes you fall in love along with the characters. That’s because no matter what gender you belong to, you can always put yourselves in one of the character’s shoes. And pretty much everybody could relate to either Bradley Cooper or Jennifer Lawrence.

Or both. |
JENNIFER LAWRENCE (a.k.a. J-Law)
Aside from being a great specimen of eye candy (for males and lesbians, both the butch and the non-butch varieties), Jennifer Lawrence is a terrific actress. This is the second time she’s been nominated, the first in 2010 with her lead performance in Winter’s Bone. Also, she’s a very seductive dancer with a cute butt.

Yeah, baby. |
BRADLEY COOPER (a.k.a. B-Coop? That doesn’t sound right... Okay, how about C-Brad? No? )
Bradley Cooper is also eye candy, for the ladies and ladies-at-heart (and is even man-crush material for straight guys). For this movie, he gets his first Oscar nomination for playing a pretty convincing bipolar, and for running around wearing a garbage bag over his sweatshirt.

The last time a garbage bag became coolwas after Eminem's 8 Mile. |
Great actors are usually found with great directors, and recognition should be given to David O. Russell, another Oscar nominee for both directing and original writing. (How many nominations does this film have? Oh, eight.) Russell strikes a perfect balance between romance, comedy, family life, mental disorders, and general feel-goodery. Excellent performances also from Robert De Niro, Oscar nominee for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and a more toned-down Chris Tucker, Oscar nominee for Best Comeback.
