American Horror Story: Asylum, a.k.a. American Horror Story Season 2

I loved the first season of American Horror Story, even if I am a self-declared wuss. With the show’s second season, creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have decided to continue the horror, with a different story entitled Asylum. Those used to long-form storytelling might have some confusion here, but what those Glee guys are going for is actually quite novel and refreshing in these modern times, despite it being probably as old as the performing arts itself.

"You do know that you are creepy, right?" |
Just think of the show’s cast as a Shakespearean travelling troupe, moving from town to town staging different Shakespeare plays. An actress could be playing Lady Macbeth in one town, and then be playing Juliet Capulet in another. That’s basically it. Told you those Glee guys were on to something.

The girl-on-girl kiss: senior edition. |
As the season title suggests, this takes place in the insane asylum called Briar Cliff. The slutty nun roles are taken care of by Lily Rabe and Jessica Lange, who is clearly the star of this show. The insane roles are covered by Sarah Paulson and Lange (told you she was the star of this show). The murderous male douchebag roles are covered by James Cromwell, Dylan McDermott, and Zachary Quinto. Joseph Fiennes lends a hand as well, and his crucifixion scene is for me one of the most visually disturbing images this season (I used to be very scared of crucified Christs).
But the real Jesus was way skinnier. |
I only have one problem with this season, and that’s “The Name Game” sequence. What the hell, Glee guys?
